Table Talk Week 1

Hospitality was deeply entrenched in the Old Testament world in which Abraham lived.  There were no hotels, no restaurants, no roadside rest stops or welcome centers.  Anyone who went on a journey knew that in order to arrive at their destination they would have to depend on the hospitality of strangers.

  • Imagine that you had to travel several hundred miles and your only means for survival was to depend on strangers from town to town. Go around the table and talk about what you would do.

  • Now imagine that there was a stranger traveling through town who has nothing. The stranger knocks at your door and asks for help. Go around the table and talk about what you would do.

Guided Prayer

It is unlikely that a stranger who has traveled hundreds of miles will stop at your door; however, it is very likely that there is a stranger, someone who is different than you or that you would normally not associate with, you should invite to your table.  Use the prayer prompt below to invite God to help you to be sensitive to whom He may be asking you to extend hospitality to.

God you said in your word, don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it. God give me the opportunity to be a blessing to a stranger. Open my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my heart to receive the person you want me to be a blessing to.
